Location
Miami Shores is just south of North Miami and just north of downtown Miami on the eastern coast of Florida.
Take I-95 south and you're a few minutes away from windsurfing in Key Biscayne, clubbing in South Beach and enjoying the sun and surf of Fisher Island.
You can reach Miami Shores through Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale International Airport. The village also is close to the Port of Miami, where the Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines will launch its newest ship in 2012 -- the 130,000-ton Carnival Beeze.
Centers of Learning
If you want to expand your horizons, Miami Shores hosts three universities offering hundreds of programs.
Florida International University: One of the 25 largest universities in the nation, FIU has 44,000 students and 100,000 alumni living and working in South Florida. The school offers more than 200 programs in engineering, international relations and law. It emphasizes research as a major part of its mission, opening the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in 2009.
Barry University: Founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, this private, Catholic university enrolls 2,747 full-time undergraduate students and 3,748 graduate students.
Johnson and Wales University: A private, nonprofit university that is a recognized leader in "career education," offering programs in business, hospitality, culinary arts and other career-focused subjects. Its faculity is industry based, bringing real-life experience to the classroom. The university boasts 83,000 alumni in 140 countries.

Arch Creek Park
This intimate park formed around a 40-foot, natural limestone bridge over Arch Creek, believed to have been used by the Tequesta and Seminole Indian tribes. The park, designated as a Florida State Historical Preserve, maintains a museum with artifacts left by homesteaders as they passed over the arched bridge. Park naturalists run tours that teach more about the native birds, animals and trees in the area. Don't miss Arch Creek Park's beautiful butterfly garden and its Saturday, historic nature walks.
Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA)
This contemporary art gathering place opened in 1996 and is dedicated to showing the work of contemporary masters and new artists, as well. It strives to understand the human condition through artistic expression.
Miami Shores Country Club
This historic country club offers golfing on its 18-hole, championship course known for the sub-tropical vegetation you'll lose your ball in. It is a private club, but one without bonds, initiation fees or monthly spending limits. The club also has a lighted driving range, and a lounge and grill. Don't miss the club's yummy Sunday brunch and its cool Friday Night Jazz in the lounge.
